🎸 Bruce Springsteen Unveils Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition
Bruce Springsteen is giving fans a long-awaited deep dive into his 1982 classic with the five-disc Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition, dropping Oct. 17—perfectly timed ahead of the new theatrical film Deliver Me From Nowhere on Oct. 24, which dramatizes the making of the iconic album.
Here’s what makes this release historic:
Electric Nebraska Disc:
The centerpiece for many fans is the eight-song “Electric Nebraska” disc. While it doesn’t cover the entire album, it features E Street Band versions of six classic tracks, plus two 1982 recordings—“Born in the U.S.A.” and “Downbound Train”—which were later re-recorded for the 1984 blockbuster album. Springsteen explained the trio-format recording with Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent as “punk rockabilly,” an attempt to bring Nebraska into the electric world.
Acoustic Outtakes:
The set also includes eight previously unreleased acoustic tracks from the solo Nebraska sessions, like “On the Prowl,” “Gun in Every Home,” and “Child Bride.” Some were later recorded with the band, while others appear on an album for the first time.
Full-Album Performance Film:
A newly filmed performance at New Jersey’s Count Basie Theatre, directed by Thom Zimny, captures Nebraska in its entirety for the first time. Included on Blu-Ray in the vinyl and CD box sets, the performance impressed Springsteen: “There’s just something about that batch of songs on Nebraska that holds some sort of magic.”Remastered Original Album:
The collection also features a 2025 remaster of the original Nebraska, giving listeners the definitive version of this stripped-down classic.
The Backstory:
For decades, fans debated whether a full-band “Electric Nebraska” existed. In June 2025, Springsteen initially said it didn’t—but a later text revealed, “There IS an electric Nebraska record though it does not have the full album of songs.” Band members recall recording eight of the ten tracks in 1981, minus State Trooper and My Father’s House.
Physical Versions:
Available in four-LP and four-CD configurations, both including the Blu-Ray of the Count Basie performance, this set is a must-have for collectors and fans alike—finally opening the vault on one of Springsteen’s most legendary eras.
