The Naked Gun is coming back, and this time, it’s Liam Neeson leading the chaos. The full trailer for the upcoming comedy just dropped, giving fans a first proper look at what is in store.

Directed by Akiva Schaffer, the reboot follows Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original Police Squad officer played by the late Leslie Nielsen. Alongside him is Pamela Anderson, with a cast that also features Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Runnels, and CCH Pounder. The film arrives in theaters on August 1.

This time around, Liam Neeson takes on a different kind of role

Known for his serious film roles, Liam Neeson is switching things up with this one. He plays Drebin Jr., a police officer who means well but often gets caught up in the wrong situations. Just like the old Naked Gun films, the humor is all about misunderstanding, wordplay, and scenes that spiral into silliness.

In the trailer, there’s a quick moment that sums up the vibe: Drebin tells Busta Rhymes’ character, “It says you’ve served 20 years for man’s laughter,” before pausing and adding, “Must have been quite the joke.” It’s this kind of offbeat humor that the movie leans into, and Neeson seems to play alongwithout trying to overdo it.

Pamela Anderson steps back into the spotlight

Pamela Anderson plays Beth, a woman dealing with her brother’s death, or what she believes may be a murder. She turns to Drebin for help, but their conversations quickly turn awkward. At one point, Drebin says, “Please, take a chair,” and she misunderstands what he means entirely.

Anderson seems comfortable leaning into the goofy material. After stepping back from the spotlight for a while, she’s returning to film in a way that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The trailer even hints at some playful tension between her and Neeson, with a few moments that push the envelope, just enough to get a laugh.
