Spice Girls Reunion in Doubt After Mel C’s Lat­est Update

Despite Mel B’s best efforts to get the Spice Girls back togeth­er, it looks like a reunion could be off the table for the fore­see­able future. Mel C has just con­firmed that her ninth solo album is com­plete and that she’s prepar­ing to head out on tour.

“My new album is fin­ished and ready to go,” Melanie Chisholm said dur­ing the launch of Musical’s Great­est Hits in Lon­don. “This time, I real­ly want­ed to lean more into elec­tron­ic and dance music, which has been such a big influ­ence through all the DJing I’ve been doing. I just want­ed to have fun with it and cre­ate some­thing I tru­ly love. I can’t wait to get out there and per­form it.”

The announce­ment may come as a blow to fans, espe­cial­ly after Mel B recent­ly sparked excite­ment by join­ing a viral Tik­Tok con­fes­sion trend. In her video, she joked about “con­stant­ly ask­ing the Spice Girls when we’re going on tour,” along­side oth­er quirks like dress­ing like it’s the ’90s and rap­ping “Wannabe” to any­one who will lis­ten.

The last time the icon­ic group reunit­ed was in 2019, though Vic­to­ria Beck­ham chose not to take part, focus­ing instead on her fash­ion empire. Even so, the five women remain large­ly sup­port­ive of each oth­er. Emma Bun­ton, for instance, was a guest at Mel B’s glam­orous wed­ding ear­li­er this year to celebri­ty hair­dress­er Rory McPhee. Vic­to­ria Beck­ham, unable to attend due to trav­el com­mit­ments, sent heart­felt con­grat­u­la­tions on Insta­gram, while Mel C admit­ted she was “gut­ted” to have missed the big day.

One notice­able absence was Geri Hal­li­well, who nei­ther attend­ed the wed­ding nor shared any pub­lic con­grat­u­la­tions. While no rea­son was giv­en, it reignit­ed spec­u­la­tion about the pair’s his­tor­i­cal­ly tense rela­tion­ship.

For now, it seems Mel C is pri­or­i­tiz­ing her solo path, while Mel B con­tin­ues to keep the dream of a reunion alive. Fans of the ’90s icons may have to wait a lit­tle longer before see­ing the full line­up back on stage togeth­er.
