VATICAN CITY, ROME: Once regarded as the flamboyant icon of Hollywood, Al Pacino has now become the target of trolling over his unkempt appearance during his first meeting with Pope Leo.x

The 85-year-old legendary actor became the first major film star to have a private audience with the newly elected Pope Leo following their meeting in the Vatican on Monday, June 16.

The ‘Godfather’ star, who is currently filming “Maserati: The Brothers” in Italy, arrived in Rome by a private jet to meet the American Pontiff over the weekend.

The meeting with the Pope was also attended by Andrea Iervolino, the Italian-Canadian producer behind Pacino’s upcoming venture that focuses on the life of Italy’s legendary Maserati family.

Instagram account, Iervolino is seen presenting the pontiff with a commemorative model car in a glass case, as Pacino looks on.

However, what caught fans’ attention was Al Pacino’s unkempt appearance, including an unshaven beard and an untucked button-up shirt, layered by a long black coat.

After the pictures from the private meeting started making rounds on the internet, fans called out Al Pacino over his disheveled appearance during his audience with Pope Leo.

“Seriously, shirt untucked and wearing sneakers!” one X user posed. “I think Mr. Pacino may have dementia. Also, he’s unshaven and his shirt isn’t tucked in,” another speculated.

“Woah, how old is Al Pacino right now?” one person asked, while another wrote, “He’s aged damn.”

“And no one told him to shave and comb his hair?” one individual commented. “Pacino looks like a cut. That’s probably why he hasn’t cut his hair in a while,” another wrote.

Dude Al is looking rough,” a netizen said. “Is Al Pacino well? He definitely doesn’t look well. Why is the other guy, whoever he is, doing all the talking?” another asked.

Iervolino described the meeting as a moment of “profound spiritual and cultural inspiration.”

In a statement to Hollywood Reporter, the producer explained that the discussion centered around “shared values that lie at the heart of both the Catholic Church and the film: family unity, love, compassion and the importance of contributing to the common good.”

“These values, which Pope Leo XIV has consistently emphasized in his recent messages to the world, resonate deeply with the story of the Maserati brothers: a family whose legacy was built not only on innovation and excellence but on profound mutual respect, solidarity and a shared vision,” he continued.

Last month, it was confirmed that Pacino had joined the cast of Bobby Moresco’s film, portraying the role of Vincenzo Vaccaro, a businessman and early investor in the auto dynasty.
