First Trolley wraps for San Diego Comic-Con make debut
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego Comic-Con may still be a few weeks away, but the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is already revving up.
This week, the transit system began previewing its Trolley wraps for the comics extravaganza taking place next month, starting with a pair of designs based on new Nintendo Switch 2 games from the Mario franchise: “Donkey Kong Bananza” and “Mario Kart World.”
The wrapped Trolleys are already out traversing the tracks, and more are on the way. By the time the convention rolls around, upwards of 45 trains will be circulating in style with comic-themed wraps, according to MTS officials.

San Diego Comic-Con returns to the downtown Convention Center from Thursday, July 24 to Sunday, July 27 for its 55th year.

Badge sales have long since passed, but folks who were not able to get a hold of a ticket will still be able to partake in the excitement the convention brings by enjoying activations and decorations — like the Trolley and building wraps — scattered throughout downtown.
As far as what fans who are headed to the convention can expect, much has still yet to be revealed. Although some reports are beginning to emerge about what heavy-hitters may be present at this year’s convention — and who is opting out.
Among the big names that reports are indicating may have a noticeably pared-down presence this year is Marvel Studios

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the giant of superhero films is planning to skip this year’s Comic-Con after making a splashing return to Hall H last year, when it announced its fifth Avengers installment, “Avengers: Doomsday.”
Starring MCU icon Robert Downey Jr. in a new role, Doctor Doom, the film was initially slated to hit theaters in May 2026. That has since been pushed back to December of that year, meaning there will be another Comic-Con before its release.
The publication also reports that DC Studios, which will be entering Comic-Con this year off the release of its “Superman” reboot, is similarly toying with not hosting a blockbuster panel to break down its cinematic future, aside from previewing its upcoming season of “Peacemaker.”
A full schedule of all panels and activities hosted for Comic-Con attendees will be made available in the weeks leading up to the convention.
