George Clooney Opens Up About Marriage with Wife Amal — and Why They’ve ‘Never Had an Argument’

George Clooney is sharing a rare glimpse into his marriage with human rights lawyer Amal Clooney — and it turns out their relationship is as peaceful as it is inspiring.
During an interview with CBS News’ Seth Doane, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that he and Amal have managed to avoid arguments altogether throughout their marriage.
“When you’re younger, you want to be right about everything — ‘Don’t paint that color on the wall,’ ” George joked. “Amal and I — and everyone gets ticked off when I say this — we’ve never had a fight. We never had an argument.”
For George, the secret lies in learning what really matters.
“At this point in my life, if she wants to paint the wall red, I don’t care,” he said. “You get to a point where you just go, ‘Why would that be a discussion or an argument?’ We have an amazing relationship because we’re so supportive of each other. I just don’t care about the small stuff anymore.”
A Love That Began in Venice
George and Amal first met in July 2013 through a mutual friend. The connection was instant — so much so that George proposed less than a year later, in April 2014.
“I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal,” George recalled. “When I asked her, we had never talked about it. There wasn’t a ‘Maybe we should get married.’ I just knew I had someone I cared about more than anything.”
The couple tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Venice in September 2014 — the same city that has become a recurring backdrop in their love story.
Family Life and Endless Admiration
In June 2017, George and Amal became parents to twins Alexander and Ella. Since then, the couple has balanced high-profile careers with family life, often choosing to stay out of the spotlight to protect their children’s privacy.
Their admiration for one another, however, continues to shine in public moments. At the 2023 DVF Awards in Venice, Amal accepted the DVF Leadership Award and paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband.
“I am here in Venice with my husband; he is a rising star,” she joked during her speech. “Venice is the place where almost nine years ago we were married. You, my love, like this city, take my breath away and make our lives magical. It’s sometimes hard to believe you exist — thank you for being the brightest light in my life.”
