‘Bosch’ Spin-Off Soars on Streaming Charts Despite Recent Titus Welliver News

The Bosch universe continues to expand — but it might be doing so without its cornerstone. Prime Video has officially renewed Ballard for a second season, confirming that Maggie Q will return as Detective Renée Ballard in Michael Connelly’s acclaimed crime franchise, and fans have flocked back to the series, propelling it into Prime Video’s Top 10. Yet amid the celebration, one notable absence has fans talking: Titus Welliver, the actor behind LAPD icon Harry Bosch, wasn’t mentioned anywhere in Prime Video’s announcement.
Welliver played Harry Bosch for nearly a decade across seven seasons of Boschand two seasons of Bosch: Legacy before reprising the role in Ballard’s first season. His absence from the renewal statement has led many to wonder whether the character’s on-screen journey has finally reached its end
Adding fuel to the speculation is Welliver’s new commitment to MGM+’supcoming crime series The Westies, in which he stars opposite J.K. Simmons. While no official confirmation has been given regarding Bosch’s future appearances, fans are bracing for a possible farewell

Based on Connelly’s best-selling novels, Ballard follows Detective Renée Ballard, a fiercely determined LAPD officer who works the night shift and tackles cold cases while navigating the politics and prejudice within the department. The first season debuted on July 9 and quickly became one of Prime Video’s biggest summer hits, earning a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and topping both Nielsen and FlixPatrol’s charts.
Lauren Lancaster, Head of U.S. SVOD TV Development at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the show’s breakout success
Ballard’s gripping storytelling and outstanding performances from Maggie Q and the entire cast have made it an instant hit with audiences. We couldn’t be more excited to continue the journey

Showrunners Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood echoed that enthusiasm, teasing what’s next for Season 2
“We’re so grateful to have the chance to continue Ballard’s story. Seeing audiences resonate with these characters is incredibly rewarding. We get to work with such a talented, dedicated team — and we’re thrilled to keep building this world. Can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve cooked up!

In his own statement, Michael Connellyexpressed gratitude for the show’s reception — but, like Prime Video, did not reference Welliver or Bosch’s future
It’s a great privilege to have my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s thanks to the fans continuing to tune in that we’re able to do so. I’m especially grateful to Maggie Q for embodying Renée so perfectly, honoring the character as we take her into the next stage of her journey.”
