Trump Claims Even George Washington Would Have Backed Him, Puts Himself on Par With Lincoln

Donald Trump told the audience that his “America First” vision reflected exactly what George Washington would have wanted, even claiming the nation’s first president would have voted for him.

Speaking at the American Cornerstone Institute’s Founders Dinner, held at Washington’s historic Mount Vernon estate, Trump declared:

“On the world stage, we are once again putting America first. That is what we do — we help others, but we have to put America first. Exactly as George Washington would have wanted. He would have voted for us.”

With those remarks, the former president not only aligned himself with Washington’s legacy but also placed himself among the great figures of American history, suggesting his political movement carries on the vision of the Founding Fathers.

Trump ranks himself with Washington and Lincoln

“We have a man who rated me the number three president of all time,” Trump said. “He said only superseded by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. And the host of the show said, ‘Are you in trouble! Trump is going to be so angry at you when he hears he‘s number three.’ But we will take that. I don‘t know how many have done that.”

The president compared himself to Washington earlier this year, too. During his address to Congress back in March, Trump bragged that his second-term kickoff beat out even the first president

“It has been stated by many that the first month of our presidency… is the most successful in the history of our nation,” he said then, And what makes it even more impressive is that, do you know who number two is? George Washington. How about that? I don’t know about that list, but we’ll take it.”

During his first run in the White House, Trump once told an Ohio rally, “With the exception of the late, great Abraham Lincoln, I can be more presidential than any president that’s ever held this office.”

That said, while patting himself on the back, Trump also handed out a prize. He announced that his former HUD secretary, Dr Ben Carson, will be receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Carson and his wife, Candy, founded the American Cornerstone Institute in 2021 to promote conservative values, and the think tank even sat on the advisory board of Project 2025.

When Stallone crowned Trump ‘the second George Washington’

Back in November, Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone himself called Trump the “second George Washington” while speaking at the America First Policy Conference at Mar-a-Lago.

The 78-year-old action star described the opening scene of the first Rocky film, where the camera pans from a mural of Jesus in an old church-turned-gym as Rocky Balboa gets socked in the face, with the words “Resurrection AC Club” hanging in the background.

At that moment, he was a chosen person, and that’s how I began the journey,” Stallone told the Florida crowd. “Something’s gonna happen, this man is gonna go through a metamorphosis and change lives

Stallone wasn’t shy about how much he admires Trump. He called the then-President-elect a “mythical character” and admitted he was “awed” by Trump’s election-night victory.

“This individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody could’ve pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe,” he said.

The tough-guy director even compared Trump’s campaign to the American Revolution itself. “When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world. ‘Cause without him, you could imagine what the world would look like,” he said.

“Guess what? We got the second George Washington. Congratulations,” Stallone gushed as he welcomed Trump on stage.
